Reference News reported on August 16 According to the Singapore Lianhe Zaobao website on August 15, Palestinian President Abbas said he would travel to the Gaza Strip.

The report quoted AFP as saying that Abbas said at a special meeting of the Turkish Parliament on the 15th that he had decided to go to the Gaza Strip controlled by Hamas with Palestinian leadership officials. His statement was applauded by Turkish MPs.

Abbas said he would go to Gaza even if it cost him his life. "Our lives are not more valuable than a child's life."

"Gaza is part of the whole of the country. We do not accept any solution that divides our territory. There can be no Palestinian state without Gaza. Our people will not surrender," he told Turkey's parliament.

The Abbas government is reportedly headquartered in Ramallah in the West Bank of the Palestinian territory, while the Gaza Strip has been under the control of Hamas since 2007, and no one is allowed to enter the enclave except a few humanitarian workers.

Abbas wore a white scarf with Turkish and Palestinian flags, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and many lawmakers who listened to his speech were also dressed in the same way. His visit to Turkey came after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
