Recently, there has been a "men's clothing trend" among many women. The reason is that some women have found that men's clothing is not only cheaper, but also more considerate in design. For example, women's trousers generally have very small pockets, which can't even fit a mobile phone, while men's trousers have deep and large pockets; the washing labels on women's clothing are very piercing, and it is uncomfortable whether you leave them alone or cut them off, while many men's clothing will cover the washing labels with a piece of cloth to separate them from the skin...
Before discovering these differences, women could feel the various minor discomforts caused by clothing, but they thought that "clothes are just like that" and chose to adjust themselves and endure. However, after discovering the differences between men's and women's clothing, women realized that these discomforts can be seen and solved.
The direct reason for the above differences is that the focus of men's and women's clothing is completely different during the design stage. Men's clothing design pursues durability and comfort, emphasizes functionality and practicality, and the style is relatively basic and does not change much. Women's clothing puts fashion and style first, the shape should be slim, and they are more innovative in style, fabric, and pattern. In addition to meeting the above conditions, women's clothing consumption also pursues original design, which significantly increases costs and prices.
What's worse is that the pursuit of beauty often comes at the expense of convenience and comfort. The problem of pockets in women's clothing has long been criticized. Statistics show that women's trouser pockets are 48% shorter and 6.5% narrower than men's trouser pockets on average; only 40% of women's trouser pockets can fit common smartphones on the market. Imagine that when the pocket can only fit half of a mobile phone, as long as the body has a large range of movements, such as squatting and riding, you must always be careful to prevent the phone from falling, and it may even hit the hips and waist, which is very uncomfortable. One of the reasons for this phenomenon is that the existence of pockets or pockets that are too large may destroy the shape of the pattern, that is, the so-called destruction of the shaping of women's curves by clothing.
But is this kind of sacrifice really necessary for women? Perhaps 10 years ago, some women could still be persuaded by such rhetoric as "There are no ugly women in the world, only lazy women" and "A woman's wardrobe is always missing a piece of clothing." However, in recent years, more and more women have begun to understand that the spread and penetration of these ideas are nothing more than "brainwashing packages" thrown out by merchants to create segmented demand and the next consumer hotspot. For example, the "BM style" uses small sizes as the core concept, inducing girls to squeeze themselves into clothes that are so small that they are close to children's clothes. But after the trend passed, they clearly realized that such clothes can only bring them body anxiety, so the "BM style" gradually disappeared.
What daily clothing really needs to achieve is skin-friendly and soft fabrics, well-fitting styles, and durability. On this basis, auxiliary functions that can bring convenience to work and life are added. As for beauty, it is just an extra point. Without the two essential elements of comfort and convenience, everything is a castle in the air. Starting from August, Hunan Airlines has fully implemented the wearing of flat shoes by flight attendants on duty. High heels have always been regarded as the standard of flight attendants and one of the ways to reflect the professionalism of aviation services. This move is to say no to the objectification of women "serving beauty service".
Furthermore, it is not necessarily a cost-effective choice for merchants to simply increase the number of styles. In economics, there is a common saying of "diminishing marginal returns", which means that the repetition of a certain stimulus will gradually reduce people's satisfaction. After decades of development, women's clothing design has been close to the margin. At present, most women's clothing "innovations" are just repetitions and superpositions of popular elements. Consumers are aesthetically fatigued and may not necessarily buy them. It is better to change the concept and think about whether comfortable women's clothing will become the next outlet.
The underlying reason why women feel "backstabbed" is their pursuit of comfort in clothing. Many people have already taken practical actions to reject the "pink tax" and refuse to be treated differently. The women's clothing industry should take this voice seriously and return women's clothing to its practical essence.
