Today is the second National Ecological Day. The Beijing Raptor Rescue Center (BRRC) released eight red kestrels in Nanyuan Forest Wetland Park. BRRC invited more than 10 raptor rescuers to witness the red kestrels' return to the wild. The red kestrels are smaller birds of prey and are national second-level protected wild animals.
On the morning of August 15, eight red kestrels were escorted by BRRC rehabilitators to Nanyuan Forest Wetland Park. First, the rehabilitators introduced the precautions for releasing raptors to the public participating in the event. Afterwards, the raptor rescuers participating in the event will experience the release one by one. Under the guidance of the rehabilitators, the rescuers tilted the raptor transport box at 45 degrees and slowly opened the box. When the red kestrels saw the outside world, they would be stunned for a moment, observe the surrounding situation, spread their wings and jump out... After a while, the eight red kestrels were successfully released one after another and disappeared into the woods.
"Watching these little lives return to the wild makes me feel fulfilled. At the same time, taking my child to participate in such activities sows the seeds of love for nature in her heart, which is of immeasurable value for her to become a responsible global citizen in the future." Ms. Zhang Yanyan, who participated in the release event, told the Beijing Youth Daily that in mid-May this year, she and her 10-year-old daughter found an injured red horned owl in the Garden Expo Park in Fengtai District. This was the first time she and her child had close contact with a bird of prey, and then they contacted BRRC for rescue.
