The Regulations on the Protection of Olympic Symbols stipulate that Olympic symbols, such as the five-ring symbol and the Olympic Games emblem, are protected. No one may use the Olympic symbols for commercial purposes without the permission of the Olympic symbol right holder. Merchants who copy and sell Olympic gold medals have clearly infringed on the exclusive rights of the Olympic symbols.

If similar violations are found, the local market supervision and management departments at or above the county level will manage the infringement of Olympic symbols in their administrative areas. If the infringement is found to be established, they may order the immediate cessation of the infringement, confiscate and destroy the infringing goods and the tools mainly used to manufacture infringing goods or to manufacture Olympic symbols for commercial purposes without authorization.
