Fuzhou, August 14 (China News Service) (Peng Lifang) On the 13th, the Chen Jingrun Science Foundation awarded the "Jingrun Student" scholarship for the first time at the Chen Ancestral Hall in Lufeng, Lulei Village, Fuzhou.

The famous mathematician Chen Jingrun was born in Lulei, Fuzhou. In 1973, he published a detailed proof of "1+2" in "Science China", which caused a sensation in the world. This result is recognized as a major contribution to the study of Goldbach's conjecture, and the international mathematics community calls it "Chen's Theorem". A plaque inscribed by Chen Jingrun himself, "Jingrun will never forget his hometown", was left in Lulei Village, expressing his deep feelings for his hometown.

At the scene, the award-winning students and their parents walked into the ancestral hall from the Xiaomen Gate, worshipped their ancestors through the Longmen Gate, put on the ribbons worn by the elders, beat drums to express their determination to fight. Chen Youwei, son of Chen Jingrun and chairman of the Chen Jingrun Science Foundation, and guests presented honorary trophies and scholarships of 10,000 yuan each to the five Lu Lei candidates who achieved excellent results in the college entrance examination this year and were admitted to "985" and "211".

The "Jingrun Student" scholarship includes the Jingrun Future Star and Jingrun Inspirational Scholarship, which was established by the Chen Jingrun Science Foundation to reward and commend outstanding candidates and students.

It is worth mentioning that the trophy design adopts the manuscript elements of Mr. Chen Jingrun’s “Proof of Goldbach’s Conjecture 1+2” to commemorate Mr. Chen Jingrun’s outstanding contributions in the field of number theory, as well as his scientific spirit of perseverance, courage to innovate, concentration on research, and selfless dedication.

Chen Hongrui, the representative of the "Jingrun Student" award, applied for the Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, where Chen Jingrun's teacher Shen Yuan worked, and chose mathematics as his major. He said: As an alumnus of Mr. Chen Jingrun at the Affiliated Middle School of Fujian Normal University, he must inherit and carry forward Mr. Chen's spirit, love science, and strive for greater heights.

He said that a country will prosper if its education prospers, and only by constantly pursuing excellence can we live up to the expectations of our ancestors and pass on the family tradition.

The Chen Jingrun Science Foundation, established in Xiamen in 2022, is based in Fujian and radiates across the country. It is committed to cultivating top mathematical innovation talents and delivering new forces to key universities and research institutions. In order to improve the level of basic mathematics, the foundation recently held a digital seminar at the Suichang Education Base in Fujian. In the future, it will also help improve the quality of rural mathematics teachers and promote the development of the country's rural education by opening a comprehensive mathematical ability training for "Jingrun Students".
