Recently, during the development of Zhaodong Oilfield in Bohai Bay, Dagang Oilfield set a new record for the longest tail pipe lowering in domestic side drilling with a length of 2,645 meters, and successfully completed the tail pipe lowering and cementing operations.
Zhaodong Oilfield is located in the extremely shallow waters of Bohai Bay. Due to the characteristics of offshore development, the number of wellheads in the oilfield is limited. The development of new oil wells usually requires the development of old oil wells, and "opening windows" on the inner side of the casing of the old oil wells, and then continuing to produce oil. Such oil wells are also called side drilling wells. At present, Zhaodong Oilfield has nearly 200 wellheads, but there are nearly 400 underground wells. Some old oil wells have been reused 4 times.

This move has achieved intensive utilization of resources, but it faces problems such as difficulty in preventing collisions between underground wellbores, difficulty in transporting wellbore cuttings, easy obstruction of casing lowering and circulation blockage.
Guo Haitao, director of the Capacity Construction Center of Zhaodong Oil Production Management Area of Dagang Oilfield, introduced that in the face of technical difficulties in production, Dagang Oilfield made full use of information technology and intelligent means during the drilling process, and realized professional integrated collaborative tracking and analysis through real-time drilling data transmission system and logging remote transmission system. In the recent side-drilling casing lowering process, through a series of technical breakthroughs, after 39 hours, the casing lowering and cementing operations were successfully completed. It took a total of 16.5 days from drilling to completion, and the length reached 2,645 meters, setting a new record for the longest side-drilling tail pipe lowering in China.

Guo Haitao said that the time taken to lower the tail pipe in the side drilling well was 30% less than that of similar domestic wells, and it also saved a lot of budget funds. The breaking of this drilling record provides a reference for similar domestic side drilling wells, and also provides more domestic tools and technology reserves for domestic offshore oilfield development.
