at present,About 1.9 million people have been forced to flee their homes in the Gaza Strip. Most of them have temporarily taken up residence in shelters converted from schools. However, due to Israeli air strikes, these shelters are no longer safe for many people.
CGTN reporter Osama Ash: Palestinians are being warned of new threats. Since the beginning of August this year, 13 schools housing displaced people have been attacked.
At the Ramla School in Gaza City, half of the building has been reduced to ruins due to the Israeli bombing, but many families still choose to live here temporarily because they have nowhere else to go.
Omar Souka, a displaced person: We are from the Shujaya community and used to live in Dalal Maghrabi School. That school was bombed ten days ago and we had to move to Ramla School. You see, this school is badly damaged. There are only ten classrooms here and now ten to twelve families live there. Two days ago, the building next to us was attacked. A few days ago, Zahra School was also attacked, which is less than 20 to 30 meters away from us.
According to figures released by the Gaza Strip Media Office on the 12th, since the outbreak of a new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict on October 7 last year,175 shelters have been attacked by the Israeli army. These include more than 150 schools where displaced persons live. The Israeli army claimed that some Palestinian militants were operating in these schools or using them as command centers, but this claim was refuted by the local displaced persons.
Displaced person Hamza Saqafi: The Israeli army claims that there are resistance forces or political or military personnel here. Where are the military personnel? Look at these buildings, is there anything here? Where are the "commanders" or so-called "armed personnel"? Where do these claims come from? Please explain (Israel). There are only children in the school that was attacked.
