According to Fast Technology on August 14, today, market research firm TechInsights released a report stating that in the second quarter of 2024, Huawei's global smartphone shipments increased by 49% year-on-year to 11.6 million units.

At the same time, due to the large proportion of high-end models (Mate and Pura series combination), its wholesale average selling price (ASP) and wholesale revenue both hit record highs.

TechInsights said the Chinese market remains Huawei's core market, accounting for 89% of its global smartphone shipments.

TechInsights pointed out that in the second quarter of this year, Huawei released the Pura 70 series, which is Huawei's flagship model for entering the overseas high-end market. Huawei is targeting the high-end market occupied by Apple and Samsung and has successfully taken the first step.

It is reported that the Pura 70 series covers all price ranges from 5,500 yuan to 10,999 yuan (about 769 US dollars to 1,539 US dollars) in China, and the proportion of Pura and Mate series in Huawei's total shipments has increased significantly year-on-year.

In terms of foldable screens, Huawei's Mate X series and Pocket series grew by 400% and 50% year-on-year respectively this quarter.

Last quarter, Huawei released the Pocket 2, which retails for between 7,499 yuan and 8,999 yuan (about $1,038 to $1,246), comparable to the Samsung Z Flip 5.

At the same time, Huawei this month also released the nova Flip, a more affordable small foldable version of the nova series for the mass market, which will drive Huawei’s small folding momentum in the Chinese market in the next few months.

In terms of shipments, Huawei ranked third in the Chinese smartphone market in the second quarter, with shipments of 10.4 million units, a year-on-year increase of 57%.

TechInsights also believes that the political and language barriers Apple faces in China (especially Apple Intelligence) will still leave room for Huawei to grow in the high-end segment of its home market.
