Multiple rumors have previously claimed that the iPhone 16 models will be equipped with a brand new button designed to make it easier to take photos in landscape mode. Apple internally calls this button the "capture button," and it will be one of the most advanced buttons ever released, supporting multiple gestures and responding to pressure. Here are all the rumored functions of the button:
When capturing an image or video, simply tap the button to automatically focus.
Press the button firmly to take a photo.
Slide the button left or right to zoom in or out.
There may also be a gesture for switching between photo and video modes, similar to how you capture video in the iPhone camera app by pressing and swiping.
DSLR users are accustomed to the ability to autofocus at the touch of a button, as this is how they usually do it with high-end cameras.
Apple plans to put the button on the right side of the iPhone, where the millimeter wave antenna is located on iPhones sold in the U.S. The millimeter wave antenna will be moved to the left side of the device to make room.
The capture button has been shown in CAD renders and virtual models of all four iPhone devices, but Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said this week that it may only be available on the Pro models.
With the "capture button," Apple could encourage users to take horizontal images and videos, which would look better when viewed on the Vision Pro headset.
In addition to the new button, the iPhone 16 models will also be equipped with slightly larger displays, a new A18 chip that supports Apple Intelligence, and 8GB of memory on all models, which is essential for Apple's artificial intelligence models.
