On the 13th, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian answered reporters' questions.
AFP: It was reported that on the 10th, Philippine Armed Forces Chief of Staff Browner said that two Chinese Air Force fighter jets took dangerous actions when flying over Huangyan Island on the 8th. On the 11th, Philippine President Marcos condemned China's actions as "illegal and reckless." What is China's response? Can you provide more details? Will China and the Philippines hold talks to ease the situation?
Lin Jian said that Huangyan Island is China's inherent territory and China has indisputable sovereignty over Huangyan Island and its surrounding sea and airspace. On August 7 and 8, Philippine military aircraft intruded into the airspace near Huangyan Island twice, seriously infringing on China's sovereignty and seriously violating international law and basic norms governing international relations. The Chinese military took necessary measures in accordance with the law, and the on-site operations were professional and standardized, in line with China's domestic and international laws. It should be pointed out that the Philippines sent military aircraft to intrude into China's airspace over Huangyan Island during the so-called joint cruise in the South China Sea with the United States, Australia and Canada, which was a malicious provocation with ulterior motives.
Lin Jian stressed that China warns the Philippines to immediately stop its infringing and provocative actions in Huangyan Island and not to act recklessly. China will continue to take resolute measures in accordance with the law to firmly safeguard its territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
