The latest news from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan: The "Short-nosed Family", a group of wild elephant stars that once attracted global attention by traveling north and south, are in good condition since returning to their hometown. They have added four newborn elephants in three years, and the population is thriving and living a leisurely and comfortable life.
2021 "Short Nose Family" is famous all over the world
In 2021, the "Short-nosed Family" wild elephants attracted the attention of the world with a rare journey from north to south and returned, and were called the "most handsome guys" in the wild elephant world.
Wang Bin, director of the Xishuangbanna Asian Elephant Conservation and Management Center, said that the "short-nosed family" is in good health after returning to their hometown, and the population is expanding. The baby elephants are gradually growing up and learning skills such as foraging and taking sand baths from their family members.
Currently this herd is divided into two
At present, the "Short-nosed Family" is divided into two, with 13 elephants active in the Mengyang area of Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve, and 7 elephants active in Dadugang Township, Jinghong City, along with the 28 wild elephants of the "Ran Ran Family". After the young male elephant who had separated from the group on the way north was sent back to his hometown, he frequently communicated with other elephant groups and moved deep in the tropical rainforest.
