Xinhua News Agency, United Nations, August 12 (Reporter Pan Yunzhao) China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Fu Cong stressed at the Security Council's high-level meeting on correcting historical injustices in Africa on the 12th that to correct the historical injustices suffered by Africa, we must first clearly oppose the legacy of colonialism and all kinds of hegemonic behavior. Western countries should truly assume historical responsibilities, change their ways, stop external interference, pressure and sanctions and other wrong practices, and return Africa's future to the hands of the African people.
Fu Cong said that African countries have shown great vitality on the world political stage, and their status in the international economic landscape has been rising. They have become core members of the global South, an important pole in the multipolar world, and a key participant in global governance. At the same time, the African continent is still facing many challenges to peace and development. African countries have not yet received the international respect they deserve, the expectations of the African people have not been given enough attention, and Africa's international influence has not been fully demonstrated.
Fu Cong pointed out that in history, Western countries have implemented hundreds of years of cruel colonial rule and naked racial discrimination in Africa, carried out inhumane slave trade and resource plunder, deprived the African people of their natural rights and dignity, artificially interrupted the historical process of Africa's development and progress, and plunged African countries into pain and disaster for a long time. This is the root cause of all historical injustices in Africa. To this day, some Western countries still hold on to colonial thinking, are high and mighty on African issues, and use financial, legal, sanction and even military means to interfere in the internal affairs of African countries, and use all means to squeeze and control African countries in the fields of currency, energy, minerals, and national defense.
Fu Cong said that the unfair treatment suffered by Africa is systematic and structural, involving various fields such as politics, economy, science and technology, and manifested in various aspects such as rights, opportunities and rules. China believes that the primary task is to support African countries in embarking on the path of sustainable development and laying a solid foundation for lasting peace. The international community should promote and implement the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union's Agenda 2063 together, support Africa in accelerating its industrialization and modernization, better participate in the international division of labor, share the dividends of economic globalization, and get rid of the vicious cycle of poverty and turmoil.
Fu Cong stressed that to correct the historical injustice in Africa, it is fundamentally necessary to accelerate the reform of the multilateral governance structure and enhance Africa's representation and voice. The reform of the Security Council is an important part of the reform of the multilateral governance structure. African countries hope that special priority arrangements will be made for African demands, which deserves the attention and support of the international community. Financial architecture reform is another important area of multilateral governance reform. The current international financial system is very unfriendly to developing countries in terms of investment and financing, credit ratings, economic and technical assistance, and attaches many additional conditions, which seriously restricts the development and revitalization of African countries. The irresponsible monetary policies of some major economies have produced serious spillover effects, repeatedly reaping the hard-earned development achievements of developing countries. Such an international financial system is unsustainable and must be reformed and improved as soon as possible.
Fu Cong said that China is willing to work with Africa to inherit friendship, continue cooperation, and jointly build a high-level China-Africa community with a shared future. China is also willing to work hand in hand with international partners to sincerely help Africa's development and revitalization, support Africa with practical actions to correct historical injustices, promote the construction of a more just and reasonable new international political and economic order, and truly enhance Africa's representation, voice and decision-making power in the multilateral governance system.
