With the transformation of its energy structure and the growing demand for green development, China is accelerating the construction of nuclear power and hydrogen energy projects.

Recently, the "Opinions of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on Accelerating the Comprehensive Green Transformation of Economic and Social Development" (hereinafter referred to as the "Opinions") proposed that by 2030, green transformation in key areas will make positive progress. By 2035, a green, low-carbon, circular development economic system will be basically established.

China's nuclear power has entered a period of accelerated construction.

The fleet in operation is expected to surpass France and catch up with the United States

In the process of comprehensive green transformation, the development of non-fossil energy occupies an important position. In terms of "vigorously developing non-fossil energy", the Opinions proposes to accelerate the construction of clean energy bases such as wind power and photovoltaic power in the northwest, hydropower in the southwest, offshore wind power, and coastal nuclear power. By 2030, the proportion of non-fossil energy consumption will increase to about 25%.

This is the first time that China has explicitly used the word "accelerate" in an official document to describe the pace of nuclear power project construction since the Fukushima nuclear power accident in Japan in 2011. Previously, official documents used more words such as "active", "orderly" and "efficient" to describe the development of nuclear power. For example, the 2021 Government Work Report mentioned nuclear power, using the expression "actively and orderly develop nuclear power on the premise of ensuring safety".

Many nuclear power industry insiders told the First Financial reporter that the next few years will be the "golden period" for the development of nuclear power in China, and its clean and stable energy characteristics will play an irreplaceable role in promoting the comprehensive green transformation of the economy and society.
