According to a report by Bloomberg News on the 11th, Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Bagheri reiterated on the same day that Iran is determined to punish Israel for the killing of a senior Hamas leader in Tehran last month.
In a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry in the early hours of the 11th, Bagheri said, "Iran will take legal and resolute measures to make Israel pay the price for its violations." However, he did not disclose the specific scale and time of the retaliation plan.
The statement said Bagheri made the remarks during a phone call with Belgian Foreign Minister Rabib. Bagheri stressed that Iran's response will be "in line with the principles of defending national security, territorial integrity and sovereignty, and based on international law, global norms and the UN Charter."
Bloomberg reported on the 11th that Bagheri's remarks were another escalation in a series of statements by Iranian officials that they planned to "severely punish" Israel for the assassination of Hamas leader Haniyeh. They all said that retaliation against Israel was inevitable. According to Israel's Jerusalem Post on the 11th, Tehran is discussing what kind of military retaliation to carry out, including evaluating what kind of attack may trigger a full-scale war with Israel.
