There are more "new faces" in the martial arts competition
■Liu Jiaqi and Wang Ligang
"First place, Zhang Yuyan!" Recently, a mass training competition of a battalion of a brigade of the 81st Group Army ended. When the results were announced, Corporal Zhang Yuyan of a company could hardly believe his ears. He achieved such a good result in his first competition, and his comrades applauded and cheered for him.
When she was delighted, Zhang Yuyan looked at the company commander Wei Jiangtao, and her heart was filled with gratitude: "It was the company that gave me the opportunity to show myself!"
"Allowing young soldiers with potential to compete with experienced veterans on the same stage can not only promote the continuous training of talents, but also stimulate everyone's enthusiasm for training." Wei Jiangtao told the author that according to convention, when the superior organizes a competition, the candidates are generally recommended by each platoon and then determined by the company party branch. This time they broke with the previous practice and adopted a comprehensive selection method. Many "new faces" like Zhang Yuyan entered the competition field.
This change stems from an incident that happened before.
One day, the company received a notice that the battalion was planning to organize a speech contest. Zhang Yuyan was very excited when he heard the news: I participated in speech contests when I was in college, and I became a company theory instructor after joining the army, so why not give it a try? However, before he signed up, the list of participants was posted on the notice board, and the contestants were basically "old faces" who had participated in previous competitions.
This greatly disappointed Zhang Yuyan. During those days, whether at the training ground or in the class, he often looked listless.
"Are you worried about something recently?" Zhang Yuyan's performance caught Wei Jiangtao's attention.
"Company commander, can you also give our young soldiers a chance?" The straightforward Zhang Yuyan expressed his confusion.
After hearing this, Wei Jiangtao fell into deep thought: I have always had a one-sided understanding of the soldiers who have just joined the army, and I always think that they have a weak foundation and can only grow "step by step". In fact, young soldiers in the new era generally have higher education, are quick to accept new things, and have their own advantages and specialties in many aspects. If they accept the trials and tribulations as early as possible, they can shorten the growth cycle.
Immediately, Wei Jiangtao brought the problem raised by Zhang Yuyan to the company meeting, which caused everyone to think deeply: Although martial arts competitions need experienced "old faces" to compete for honors, if young soldiers are not given opportunities, the gap between new recruits and old soldiers will become wider and wider, and new comrades will never get trained. In the end, everyone reached a consensus: to determine the candidates through fair selection.
This news rekindled Zhang Yuyan's fighting spirit. After signing up, he actively consulted experienced class leaders, prepared his speech carefully, revised it repeatedly, and finally successfully got the "ticket" to the competition.
On the day of the competition, standing on the podium, facing the watchful eyes of her comrades, Zhang Yuyan remained calm and composed, and won unanimous recognition from the judges and officers and soldiers with her outstanding performance.
Zhang Yuyan's success has given courage and confidence to many young soldiers in the company. Recently, in the mass training competition organized by the company, Corporal Chao Shuaijia won the 5-kilometer armed cross-country championship, new sergeant Qiu Dong broke the pull-up record, and Corporal Meng Junquan won the first place in the climbing course...
The hard work and progress of young comrades also inspired the veterans to forge ahead. Not long ago, Zhang Qihao, a second-class sergeant who won the first place in the brigade reconnaissance competition last year, broke the record of climbing again. "Veterans should set a benchmark and example for young comrades, and we must not let the 'new wave' wash on the beach." Zhang Qihao said.
It is understood that in the next step, the company will continue to create a learning and training atmosphere of learning from each other, helping each other and surpassing each other, making good use of the excellent experience of veterans and allowing more "new faces" to carve out a place for themselves.
