At 19:30 Beijing time on August 8, in the men's 500m double canoeing final of the Paris Olympics, Liu Hao, a native of Hongta District, Yuxi City, and his teammate Ji Bowen won the gold medal. This is the third time that the Chinese team has won the gold medal in this event after the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and it is also the 26th gold medal won by the Chinese delegation in this Paris Olympics. In Yuxi, Liu Hao's hometown, an event called "Singing the same song, being one family" - cheering for Olympic athlete Liu Hao was staged at Yuxi Nie Er Music Square. Thousands of people watched the game together to cheer for the Olympic athletes from their hometown.
The event kicked off with the Yuxi traditional lantern dance "Singing Gaogulou Again". Afterwards, Wan Fuling, Liu Hao's former coach and current canoeing coach at Yuxi Sports School, took the stage to popularize canoeing knowledge and talk about Liu Hao's personal growth and award-winning experience.
After a simple warm-up, the competition officially began. In the first half, Liu Hao and his teammate Ji Bowen created a leading advantage; in the second half, they left all their opponents behind and rushed to the finish line, eventually winning the gold medal with a time of 1 minute 39.48 seconds.
On the field, the Olympic athletes fought hard; off the field, the hometown people were full of enthusiasm. Everyone waved the national flag and slogan boards to cheer for Liu Hao on the field. Liu Hao was born in Hongta District, Yuxi in 1993. In 2007, he was selected for the canoeing team of Yuxi Sports School. In 2008, he was selected to Wuhan Institute of Physical Education for canoeing training due to his outstanding performance. In 2010, he joined the Yunnan Province Canoeing Team and was selected for the national team three years later. As an outstanding athlete trained and sent by Yuxi, Liu Hao performed outstandingly in this Olympic Games. Previously, he and his teammates finished the preliminaries with a score of 1 minute 37 seconds 40, creating a new Olympic best result for the event.
