"Talent is the first resource and fundamental force for winning cyberspace security." On August 9, at the main forum of the 2024 Cybersecurity Technology Innovation and Talent Education Summit Forum held in Changsha, Kong Zhiyin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, shared his insights on cybersecurity talent training and education in his speech at the conference.

Kong Zhiyin said that in today's digital age, technologies such as cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence are widely used, profoundly empowering all aspects of economic, political, cultural, military and social governance. At the same time, the means and methods of cyber attacks are also constantly evolving, becoming more diverse and complex. If we cannot effectively respond to security threats from cyberspace, it will seriously affect production and life, social stability and even national security. This requires cybersecurity talents to be able to effectively identify and prevent cyber attacks from both inside and outside, ensure that national security interests are not infringed, help enterprises build a secure network environment, and ensure the healthy operation of the digital economy.
"There is a global shortage of cybersecurity talent, especially senior cybersecurity experts." Kong Zhiyin said that the essence of cybersecurity is confrontation, and the subject of confrontation is actually people. At present, the technology in the field of cybersecurity is updated very quickly, which is a great challenge for educational institutions and teaching models. To cultivate cybersecurity talents, we must grasp its unique characteristics and laws, including the rapidly changing technical environment, multidisciplinary intersection, and emphasis on the combination of theory and practice.
Kong Zhiyin suggested that we should first lay a solid foundation. Cybersecurity involves multiple disciplines, which requires cybersecurity talents to have multidisciplinary knowledge reserves and the ability to learn quickly. In the face of a rapidly changing technological environment, learning ability is more important than knowledge reserves. "Few people will face the same job requirements as what they learned in school after they start working, so you must keep learning and always be learning."
"Secondly, we should focus on cultivating students' practical ability." Kong Zhiyin said that network security is a field with strong practical confrontation. It is necessary to break the traditional education model based on test selection, classroom education, and examination evaluation, and combine theory with practice. In particular, it is necessary to cultivate students' offensive and defensive concepts, build a professional curriculum system and training program from an application-oriented and skill-oriented perspective, and improve students' practical ability through practical training and other methods. Third, we must continuously expand the vision of network security talents, combine it with national strategic needs and strategic planning, and cultivate high-level talents as well as a large number of related talents quickly. We must take into account the selection of special talents and discover, select and cultivate gifted and talented network security talents through competitions.
