On August 8, the 2024 Youth Agricultural Science Popularization Seed Action Plan series of activities hosted by the Beijing Agricultural Informatization Society was launched. More than 40 young people and teachers from Yongwai Community in Dongcheng District went to the Magic Seed Leisure Farm in Miyun District to observe seed germination, experience seedling planting, and explore the mystery of seeds.
Children observing the seedlingsThe event included a series of colorful science courses on agricultural planting, including lectures on soil and seeds, lectures and practice on sprout planting, visits to bases, seed painting, etc. Li Jijin, a researcher at the Institute of Plant Nutrition and Resources of Beijing Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, and Xie Long, a doctor at the Institute of Vegetables, explained the "little secrets of soil" and "magical plant seeds" to the children on site. They explained the origin, development history, plant growth cycle, seed propagation form, seedling cultivation technology achievements and other knowledge of seeds in an easy-to-understand way, guiding young people to explore the mysteries of seeds.
Children depict the growth process of seedlingsIn the interactive experiments of "seed germination observation" and "plant seedling planting", the children experienced the seedling planting process by themselves. Experts demonstrated the operation steps for the children. The children excitedly observed the seeds of various plants, carefully planted the small seedlings in pots, and experienced the fun of planting.
The children also saw paintings of various agricultural planting scenes, plant growth, and ecosystems at the agricultural theme painting exhibition. Then, they picked up their brushes and each painted the seedling growth process in their own eyes. In this activity, the children gained a preliminary understanding of seed science and agricultural planting knowledge, and also developed an interest in agricultural technology.
