Wu Yu was born in Guizhou in 1995. In 2018, she won the fifth place in the 48kg class of the World Women's Boxing Championship. In 2019, she defeated the North Korean player 5-0 in the final of the women's boxing 48-51kg class of the 7th World Military Games, winning China's first women's boxing gold medal in the history of the Military Games. Next, after three years of precipitation and hard work, she defeated the Italian player in the elite women's 50-52kg class of the 2023 World Women's Boxing Championship and won the championship again. In the 2023 National Boxing Championships (first stop), Wu Yu defeated Chang Yuan in the final to win the championship. In the preliminaries and quarter-finals of the women's 50kg boxing at the Paris Olympics, Wu Yu defeated Indian player Zalin and Thai player Lasa successively. In the semi-finals, Wu Yu defeated Kazakh boxer Kzaibai with a total score of 4 to 1. In the final, Wu Yu faced Turkish female boxing champion Kakiroglu. Wu Yu's attack was always active and she won 4 to 1 in the end and won the gold medal.
