Qian Xuesen is a great people's scientist and the founder of China's space industry. In order to tell Qian Xuesen's space story well, Qian Xuesen and the China Space Research Group have spent many years interviewing, investigating and creating, and wrote "Sword Pointing to the Sky - Qian Xuesen's Space Legend", which was recently published by Shanghai Jiaotong University Press.
The author team is a second-generation aerospace person, who is very familiar with Qian Xuesen, aerospace knowledge, and the early development history of China's aerospace industry. They are full of affection for Qian Xuesen and China's aerospace industry and have spent many years writing. "Sword Pointing to the Sky: Qian Xuesen's Space Legend" is a look back at Qian Xuesen's aerospace life, and also a pursuit of China's aerospace spirit and history. It will guide young readers to find their way in life and serve the country. Recently, a new book launch conference was held at the Beijing National Science and Technology Communication Center.
This book records in depth from multiple angles the life experience and mental journey of Qian Xuesen, the founder of China's aerospace industry, who led Chinese aerospace personnel to break out a path of independent development. It describes how Qian Xuesen went to the United States to study aerodynamics and practice missile and rocket engineering, broke through obstacles and returned to the motherland, led the innovative development of China's aerospace technology, and made outstanding contributions to the emergence of the "two bombs and one satellite". It truly restores the glorious and golden years of Qian Xuesen's life.
The author interviewed more than 100 leaders and experts at all levels who had direct contact with Qian Xuesen, and consulted more than one million words of literature and materials. In the book, many long-forgotten archives and precious pictures are disclosed, with detailed historical materials and rich content. Shi Lei, on behalf of the author team, said that the book is the result of 16 years of hard work and concerted efforts by a team of aerospace experts, and is also a tribute from the second and third generations of aerospace people to the first generation of aerospace people represented by Qian.
From the establishment of China's first missile agency in 1956 to the launch of the Dongfeng-5 intercontinental missile, it extends to Qian Xuesen's study in the United States and to the start of manned space flight. This book mainly reflects four aspects: the backbone of a Chinese, the heroism of a scientist, the confidence of a great scholar, and the spirit of a pure person. "Qian Xuesen did not love money and did not leave any material legacy to his descendants, but his deep patriotism is his spiritual legacy, his height in the vast space is his scientific legacy, and his lofty scientific theories are his ideological legacy. Dignified discourse on the international stage cannot forget the older generation of scientists."
Li Ming, former colonel of the Science and Technology Commission of the Central Military Commission and secretary of Qian Xuesen, said, "Mr. Qian is a people's scientist who has made contributions, established his words, and established his morality for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation." Qian Xuesen's scientific career can be divided into three stages: the first stage was in the United States, the second stage returned to China to contribute to the "two bombs and one satellite", and the third stage was to establish his words. This book mainly focuses on Mr. Qian's second stage.
Qian Xuesen's son, Qian Yonggang, director of the Qian Xuesen Library at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, mentioned that in a 2009 article mourning Qian, there was a sentence "The excellent qualities of the Chinese nation are all reflected in Qian Xuesen." For half a century, he has devoted all his wisdom and talent to his career. When we look back at Qian Xuesen's achievements in China's aerospace, we can't help but say: "This is a scientist who has made unique contributions to China's aerospace industry." "Sword Pointing to the Sky" can just meet the needs of young people to understand these two sentences.
Chen Huadong, president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press, revealed that the book was listed as a key theme publishing book of the press. As the publishing base of Qian Xuesen, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Press has published dozens of Qian Xuesen series books over the years and will continue to do a good job in publishing series books in the future.
