On Thursday, August 8, Eastern Time, Apple announced that it will make major updates to its App Store policies in order to comply with the EU Digital Markets Act. The new policy will take effect this fall and allow app developers in the EU to promote and sell products within the app, rather than being limited to the Apple App Store.

Under the new policy, developers will be able to direct users to the purchase channel of their choice, whether it is another app store, their own website, or another app. Developers can display details of these purchase options within the app, including subscription prices and guidance on how to make purchases outside the app.

Take the "Health Assistant" app as an example. The app provides health and fitness advice and allows users to subscribe to more advanced features. Under the new policy, developers will be able to inform users in the app that they can purchase subscriptions directly through the "Health Assistant" official website and provide the corresponding link.

The policy change comes after the European Commission asked Apple to comply with the Digital Markets Act in June. Apple said the new rules will take effect for app developers in the Apple App Store in the European Union this fall.
