Taipei, August 7 (CNA) The DPP authorities completed the compilation of the 2025 budget on the 6th, with both annual revenue and annual expenditure reaching new highs. Over the past two days, some Taiwanese media have pointed out that the budget growth rate is worrying and questioned whether the relevant budget can achieve the desired effect.

According to reports from Taiwan media including Central News Agency, United Daily News, and China Times, the DPP authorities have compiled a total budget for 2025 of NT$3.15 trillion in revenue and NT$3.13 trillion in expenditure, both of which are record highs. The defense budget is also a record high, reaching NT$647 billion, and the water conservancy budget has increased by 40% to NT$55.1 billion.

In this regard, Chen Guoliang, director of the Department of Finance at National Chengchi University, said that in the past eight years, the annual expenditure budget has increased from 1.9 trillion to 3.1 trillion, and the growth rate is worrying. He doubts whether such a large amount of economic resources can achieve the desired effect. Wang Hongwei, a legislator from the Kuomintang, pointed out that if the defense budget continues to increase, it will definitely squeeze out other budgets.

The DPP authorities have compiled a debt repayment amount of 141.5 billion yuan for 2025, a 24-year high. Taiwan People's Party legislator Zhang Qikai bluntly stated that the debt repayment amount has reached a new high, which is obviously due to the high debt amount in recent years, especially many projects are funded through special budgets, indicating that Taiwan's debt problem is serious.
