A revival match mechanism has been introduced in the track and field events of this Olympics. For track and field events from 200m to 1500m, as well as hurdles events, athletes who failed to advance directly to the semifinals in the preliminaries (the top three in the group and the three best athletes among other athletes advance directly to the semifinals) will obtain a place in the semifinals through the revival match (except for those without valid results).

This is Lin Yuwei's first time participating in the Olympics. In the preliminaries, Lin Yuwei was in the fifth group, with world champion Charlton and others in the same group. Lin Yuwei's previous personal best was 12.74 seconds and her season best was 12.97 seconds, ranking at the bottom of the group of 8 players.

Lin Yuwei was born in 1999. She started to participate in athletics at the age of 10. She joined the Fuzhou Sports Team in 2010 and the Fujian Sports Team in 2015. She is currently studying at the Department of Physical Education of East China Normal University. In the early days, Lin Yuwei practiced middle-distance running and short-distance running. It was not until she met coach Liu Zhaoxu that her hurdles career really began, and she gradually showed her potential in the hurdles.
