Cairo, August 6 (Xinhua) -- Khartoum: According to the Sudan News Agency on the 6th, floods caused by continuous heavy rains in Abu Hamad, Nile State in the north of the country have destroyed houses and roads, killing at least 11 people.

The report said that the heavy rain began at around 11 p.m. on the 5th and lasted for nearly 10 hours. Most of the residential buildings in the city collapsed and many main roads were destroyed, causing 11 deaths and at least 60 injuries. At present, rescue workers are still searching for missing persons under the rubble.

Sudan's Ministry of Health said on the 5th that in the past two months, a total of seven states in the country have suffered from heavy rains and floods, which have caused 32 deaths, 107 injuries, and 5,575 houses damaged.

Sudan's rainy season generally starts in July and lasts until September or October, during which time rainfall increases and floods occur frequently.
