With the arrival of hot summer, swimming pools and other places have become a good place to cool off and play. In order to ensure the sanitation and safety of swimming pools and prevent mass infection incidents such as conjunctivitis, adenovirus and Epstein-Barr virus infection, the Beijing Municipal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is organizing special supervision and inspection of swimming venues across the city.

At the service counter at the entrance, law enforcement officers checked the health license, health certificates of service personnel, health inspection reports and other documents. Afterwards, they checked the setting of the conjunctivitis inspection post. "The focus here is to check whether the venue has posted signs as required to prohibit patients with infectious diseases, skin ringworm, severe trachoma and other diseases from entering the artificial swimming pool to swim." said Han Yu, a law enforcement officer from the Supervision Division 2 of the Municipal Disease Control Bureau.
The law enforcement officers came to the open-air swimming pool area. "Recently, in response to the frequent rain in summer, we have strengthened the inspection and guidance of outdoor swimming places, requiring relevant swimming places to prepare disinfectants and pay attention to storage safety." After taking water samples from the swimming pool, the law enforcement officers used rapid testing equipment to test the water quality, "mainly testing indicators such as free residual chlorine in the water and turbidity of swimming pool water." Han Yu explained that residual chlorine is a key indicator reflecting the disinfection capacity of the swimming pool. One minute later, the rapid test results showed that the water quality of the swimming pool met the standards. Afterwards, the law enforcement officers went to the underground machine room and checked the automatic dosing and online monitoring equipment of the chlorine-containing disinfectant set up by the swimming pool. The law enforcement officers reminded the person in charge of the swimming pool that after the heavy rain, the swimming pool should be cleaned and the pool water disinfected, and new water should be added to ensure that the water quality meets the hygiene standards before opening.

It is strictly prohibited to mix organic chlorine and inorganic chlorine for disinfection, and it is prohibited to use manual disinfectants; whether the swimming pool circulation filtration equipment is operating normally, and whether new water is added according to the standard; whether the public supplies and utensils provided by the swimming venue are cleaned, disinfected and maintained according to hygiene standards, and are changed for each guest, etc.
Since the special inspection of swimming venues was launched this summer, the city has inspected 1,060 units in total, and ordered rectification or imposed administrative penalties on 108 units with problems.
