"If there is no help from professional rescuers, the trapped people may face uncertain risks if they go down the mountain on their own." Wang Leiyang, head of the Shougang Winter Olympics Fire Rescue Station of the Beijing Shijingshan District Fire Rescue Detachment, said in an interview with Beijing Youth Daily on August 5. On the night of August 4, they braved the heavy rain and brought the eight trapped people down the mountain safely.
At around 21:30 on August 4, the Shijingshan District Fire Rescue Brigade received an alarm that eight people were trapped near the halfway point of Gongbei Pavilion in Shougang Park, including four children. It was in a heavy rainstorm at the time and the situation was very dangerous. Mudslides and other situations could occur at any time. After receiving the alarm, the Shougang Winter Olympics Fire Rescue Station immediately contacted the caller, asked about his location and surrounding conditions, reminded him of safety precautions, and rushed to the scene with rescue equipment. The Shidian Fire Station also went to provide support.
"We usually conduct research and familiarize ourselves with various places in our jurisdiction. According to the situation described by the caller, it is near a substation." Wang Leiyang, director of the Shougang Winter Olympics Fire and Rescue Station, said that the fire and rescue personnel were familiar with the substation on the mountain mentioned by the caller, so they immediately went out in the rain and successfully reunited with the trapped people in about 18 minutes. Considering the complex and changeable situation at the scene, the fire and rescue personnel of the Shougang Winter Olympics Fire and Rescue Station promptly contacted the rescue personnel of the Shi Power Station who were still searching and rescuing to come to the scene to jointly carry out the rescue.
"Little boy, don't be afraid. Nothing will happen to you, your uncle is here." After arriving at the scene, the fire rescue personnel found that none of the eight trapped people brought raincoats or umbrellas. Two of the children, aged seven or eight, looked nervous and very unstable. The rescue personnel comforted the children while taking off their raincoats and handing them to the trapped people. At the same time, they asked if anyone was injured and told them to take precautions.
"The rainfall was relatively heavy at the time, and there was a risk of mudslides on the mountain, and there was also the possibility of lightning." Wang Leiyang, director of the Shougang Winter Olympics Fire Rescue Station, said that in fact, the trapped people were less than 100 meters away from the foot of the mountain, but there were no rain gear or other climbing tools. Without the help of professionals, if they accidentally fell or slipped when going down the mountain in the rainstorm, it would cause casualties. At 21:57, the fire rescue personnel used a safety rope to connect everyone together. Wang Leiyang, director of the Shougang Winter Olympics Fire Rescue Station, took the lead in clearing the way, and the stone power station rescue personnel were responsible for safety alert at the rear. They quickly rescued the eight trapped people down the mountain. "We contacted a fast food restaurant at the foot of the mountain in advance and asked the store to help prepare some hot water and paper towels. After the trapped people went down the mountain, they went to the store to drink some hot water to warm themselves up."
The Shijingshan Fire Rescue Brigade reminds tourists to avoid climbing in extreme weather such as strong winds, heavy rain or thunderstorms, and not to venture into undeveloped areas without authorization. Before climbing, you should prepare supplies, including clothes, food, emergency medicines, climbing tools, mobile phones and mobile power banks. If you get lost or trapped during the climb, you should stay calm, reduce physical exertion, and call 119 in time.
