According to data released by Shanghai Steel Union, as of August 5, the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate fell by 1,000 yuan/ton from the last time, with an average price of 79,500 yuan/ton, falling below the 80,000 yuan/ton mark. Since the price reached a high of 600,000 yuan/ton in November 2022, the price of lithium carbonate has been on a downward trend, and this price drop has once again set a new low since its listing.

As a key raw material for new energy vehicle batteries, lithium carbonate is widely used in lithium iron phosphate, lithium cobalt oxide and some ternary lithium cathode materials. Previously, due to the rise in lithium carbonate prices, many new energy vehicle companies had to announce price increases. However, with the decline in lithium carbonate prices, the cost of new energy vehicles has decreased and prices have begun to fall. The decline in lithium carbonate prices has brought room for price cuts in the new energy vehicle market, and the continued growth in market demand shows that the new energy vehicle industry still has strong development potential. With the reduction in costs and the intensification of competition, the price of new energy vehicles is expected to fall further in the future, bringing more choices to consumers. The current continued decline in lithium carbonate prices will also intensify the "price war" in the new energy vehicle market.
