Earlier, there were reports that Apple will assemble more mobile phones in India in 2024, and the production proportion of the iPhone 16 series will increase, and may even involve the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

But some analysts disagree with this. Dan Ives believes that Apple will produce the standard version of the iPhone 16 in India, but the Pro and Pro Max will not be assembled in India, but will continue to be produced in China.

Currently, the mobile phones assembled by Apple in India are mainly non-high-end models, including standard models such as iPhone 14, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus and iPhone SE. The iPhone 15 Pro series is made in China.

As for why Apple will not build high-end models in India, it comes down to high costs. Industry insiders said that although India has low labor costs, the "hidden costs" of building production lines are higher than in China. India lacks professionalism in manufacturing and the types of supply chains are also lacking, which will limit the efficiency of the entire production chain.

Earlier, there were reports that Apple hopes to increase the proportion of mobile phones assembled in India to 25% by 2025. According to Apple's current sales data, India must win all standard version assembly orders to achieve this.
