On August 4, Xinjiang's first large-scale UAV rainmaking operation flight test mission was successfully completed in Hami. This operation will carry out a 45-day water-increasing operation test in key areas such as the East Tianshan Mountains in Hami, using the "detection and seeding" method to test the UAV's operating capabilities and effects in high-altitude areas.

The model used in the artificial water augmentation test is the Scorpion A drone, which is 10 meters long, 3.1 meters high, and has a wingspan of 20 meters. It can carry up to 24 silver iodide cigarette sticks and 200 cigarette bombs. When fully loaded, it has a maximum range of 6,500 kilometers, a maximum flight time of 30 hours, and a maximum ceiling of 10,000 meters. It has the characteristics of "all-weather", "medium and high altitude", and "long flight time".

Compared with rockets, anti-aircraft guns and other means of operation, drones have the ability to fly at night and make blind landings, and have the advantages of a wide range of applications, long operating time, and strong ability to cope with complex weather conditions.

This model has carried out multiple rounds of routine artificial rain (snow) operations and tests in many places across the country, including the Qilian Mountains and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, breaking through the limitations of complex meteorological and geographical conditions.

Hami City is one of the areas with the most scarce water resources in the country. The implementation of large-scale drone water augmentation operations can effectively alleviate the contradiction of agricultural and industrial water use in the region. In the later stage, the Xinjiang Meteorological Department will further carry out experiments such as drone rain-increasing night flights and blind landing to improve the efficiency of artificial rainfall in the whole Xinjiang.
