According to statistics from the 21 Data News Lab, a total of 22 companies from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area were shortlisted for the Fortune Global 500, with total revenue of approximately US$1.39 trillion and total profits of US$91.9 billion in 2023.
From a geographical perspective, among the Greater Bay Area companies on the list, their headquarters are concentrated in the "five trillion-dollar cities". Shenzhen has 9 companies on the list, ranking first in the Greater Bay Area; followed by Guangzhou, with 6 companies on the list, Hong Kong with 5 companies on the list, and Foshan and Dongguan each have 1 company ranked among the world's top 500.

AIA has become a new Greater Bay Area company to join the Fortune Global 500, with operating revenue of US$34.9 billion in 2023, ranking 446th on the list.
It is worth noting that the automobile industry continued to perform well, and BYD's ranking soared.
As a leading company in China's new energy vehicle industry, headquartered in Pingshan, ShenzhenBYD is the Greater Bay Area company that has improved the most in the rankings. This year, the company's revenue increased from US$63 billion last year to US$85.1 billion, and its ranking rose by 69 places compared to last year.In 2023, BYD has become the Chinese company with the largest ranking improvement, with its ranking rising by 224 places from 2022.
Behind BYD's "surge" is the continued rise of Chinese auto companies. The list data shows that when China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, there were no Chinese auto companies that met the criteria for being on the list. In 2023, there were 9 Chinese auto companies on the Fortune Global 500 list, making it one of the world's largest auto companies; in 2024, the number of Chinese auto companies on the list has expanded to 10.
