In his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman reiterated that new Mac models with the M4 chip are still on track to launch later this year, but with an interesting new detail. Gurman also added that the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro will get the M4 update in 2025.

The last time Apple updated its MacBook Pro and iMac models was at an event last October, when it fully launched the M3 chip models. The MacBook Pro got a new space black finish, and there was also a cheaper entry-level model that replaced the old 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. The 24-inch iMac remained largely unchanged, though the included accessories did not transition to USB-C and still use Lightning.

These models will see new updates this fall, and Gurman said he doesn't expect much other than the launch of the new M4 chip. The M4 chip debuted in the iPad Pro in May, and no Mac model has yet been equipped with the new chip. Since the iMac still uses Lightning accessories, it is speculated that Apple will also equip the 24-inch iMac model equipped with M4 with USB-C accessories later this year.

Gurman also said we'll see a refresh of the Mac mini later this year, as the Mac mini skipped the M3 series chips and was last updated in January 2023.
