Being able to charge the car at home is the wish of many new energy vehicle owners. However, for old residential areas, the construction and maintenance of charging piles is an unavoidable problem. In Dengfushan Village Community in Saihongqiao Street, Yuhuatai District, Nanjing, a row of shared charging piles built at the end of last year is in operation. Residents who drive new energy vehicles say goodbye to charging anxiety and no longer have to look for charging piles everywhere.

Comprehensively deepening reform is not only reflected in the rapid development of society, but also in the daily life of ordinary people. In recent years, more and more consumers have chosen to buy new energy vehicles. However, for residents of old communities, how to charge new energy vehicles is a problem. Dengfushan Village, located in Saihongqiao Street, Yuhuatai District, was built in the 1990s and currently has about 1,500 residents. Due to its early construction, residents do not have property parking spaces, and the surrounding and underground pipelines are complicated, so they do not meet the conditions for individuals to apply for the installation of charging piles. Aunt Zhu, a resident, bought a new energy vehicle two years ago. Before the charging piles were installed in the community, she could only find a nearby charging station to charge it. "There is a charging station at Andemen, one kilometer away. Sometimes my son can only go there to charge after get off work. It takes two or three hours at a time, which is very inconvenient." There are many residents who suffer from charging problems like Aunt Zhu's family, and they have also made demands and suggestions to the Dengfushan Community.

Reform means thinking about what residents think and what they are anxious about. In order to resolve the charging problem at the "doorstep", the Dengfushan Community Party Committee, together with the Grid Power Supply Company and the property company, held residents' meetings many times and chose to build a "green energy charging square" that can meet the charging needs of 14 new energy vehicles at the same time in the open space next to Building 24 of Dengfushan Village and at the door of the Smart Green Energy Station. It took more than a year to communicate and explain, hold meetings, and finally the two charging stations were put into use in November 2023. Since then, owners of new energy vehicles in Dengfushan Village no longer have to look for charging piles everywhere.

Aunt Zhu held a photo of the charging pile before it was installed and told the reporter that this was originally an empty lot with no parking spaces. Now not only charging piles are planned, but also additional motor vehicle spaces have been opened up, alleviating the problem of parking space shortage in the community. "The charging pile usage rate is very high, and everyone also abides by the order. After charging, they will move their cars away in time and leave them for new energy vehicle owners in need."

Wang Qiuyue, Party Secretary of Dengfushan Community, told Modern Express that there are about 60 electric vehicles in Dengfushan Village. Since the charging facilities were put into operation, a total of 5,492 vehicles have been charged, with an average of 42 vehicles per day. "The charging piles not only meet the needs of this community, but also take into account the charging needs of online car-hailing and some surrounding vehicles, which improves the convenience and happiness of residents' lives."

In order to solve the problems of parking difficulties, charging difficulties, and fire hazards in old residential areas, Jiangsu has successively issued the "Implementation Opinions on Comprehensively Promoting the Renovation of Old Urban Residential Areas" and "Guiding Opinions on Strengthening the Comprehensive Renovation of Old Residential Areas and Promoting the Construction of Livable Demonstration Residential Areas" in recent years, including the new energy vehicle charging facilities into the improvement of the renovation content, combining the wishes of residents and the actual conditions of the community, and upgrading the power supply infrastructure, parking garages (lots), etc. to meet the charging and parking needs of cars. According to statistics, from 2021 to 2023, the province will complete the renovation of more than 4,000 old residential areas built before the end of 2000, including 2,125 communities with regular high-voltage overhead lines, 1,484 kilometers of power supply pipelines, and 8,722 new electric vehicle charging piles. In 2024, the province plans to start the renovation of 1,060 old residential areas, benefiting about 253,000 households.
