Riot Games has recently launched its competitive shooter game "Valorant" directly on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 consoles without any notice. After a short test in June, the console version of the game has been launched in the United States, Canada, Europe, Japan and Brazil, and will include the same gameplay, heroes and skills as the PC version.

The console version will never support cross-platform matching. Riot said that this is because the team wants to maintain "competitive fairness", which also means that the PC version will not get controller support in the future. However, the game progress will support cross-platform, so the skins purchased by players and account levels will be synchronized between PC and console. The PC and console versions of the game will also receive synchronized balance patches, new characters, maps and other content updates.

The console version of the game has received some tweaks, mainly to make it easier to use with a controller, and to shoot without aiming at the hip. "'Focus' is a new design mode that behaves essentially like hip fire, but with a lower sensitivity," explains production director Darnar Gylfason. "This allows players to use hip fire when they need to move the camera/aim quickly, and use focus mode when they need precision. This also keeps the design mechanics similar to what console players are used to in shooters, all without causing the extra value that aiming at the hip provides in VALORANT to be lost."
