In recent years, with the popularity of outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, and mountaineering, a design trend called "camping style" has quietly become popular. This style incorporates a sense of ease and nature into daily life, allowing people to feel a different kind of comfort in ordinary life.

Tracing back to its origin, this style was originally called "Japanese Miscellaneous Style". Its core charm lies in the fact that despite the large number of items, it does not appear chaotic, but rather shows a unique sense of order in the seemingly disordered, creating a warm and safe atmosphere, which is closer to real life and reflects the personality and taste of the residents.

The owners, Mr. and Mrs. YN, have a wide range of hobbies, including cycling, camping, fishing, skiing, coffee tasting, cooking and raising pets. Although these hobbies enrich their lives, they also lead to the accumulation of items in the home, making the space increasingly crowded.

In order to prevent the happiness of home from being overwhelmed by their hobbies, the couple decided to seek a professional design team to carry out a comprehensive renovation, hoping that through this adjustment, they could get rid of the cramped and cluttered environment and usher in a bright, spacious, natural and tidy living space.

Floor Plan

Transformation of the former

The building area of the whole house is 88m², but the actual usable area is only 68m², which is also a typical pistol-shaped apartment. Due to the lack of effective storage solutions, the bedrooms, studios, balconies and corridors in the house are almost all occupied by various items, which seriously affects the fluency of daily life.

After transformation

The boy is a musician and works from home for a long time, and the girl also likes to paint at home. Therefore, according to the living habits and storage needs of the two, as well as their rich and diverse daily hobbies, the designer has carried out detailed design and renovation of the house:

· Remove the partition wall between the living room and kitchen to create a bright and open LDK integrated common area;

· Remove two unnecessary bedrooms to create a double studio for two people and a three-room bathroom, making efficient use of space and reducing waste;

· Customized storage system is added according to the space to ensure the orderly placement of the two people's belongings;

Considering that the floor height of the house is less than 2.5 meters, the overall ceiling design was avoided. Instead, cement art paint and exposed circuits were used, which not only maintained the height of the space but also added a unique aesthetic of industrial style.

Before the renovation, the entire space did not have a clear entrance area. There were only simple shoe cabinets on the left and right sides of the door to store shoes, which made the passage narrow and cramped, and there was no functionality for entering and exiting the house. In order to improve this phenomenon, the designer first placed a Dulton low cabinet on the left side of the entrance, which was specially used to store the couple's daily shoes.

A simple clothes rack is added above the shoe cabinet, which is not only convenient for hanging clothes, hats and other small items, but also adds a side view to the entrance area, enhancing the overall visual effect.

Next to the low cabinet, the designer built a new earth room of about 2 square meters. Some large outdoor items and commuting clothes can be stored here, which is practical, convenient and saves time and effort. The metal shelves are used inside to carry the storage classification, which is clear at a glance and easy to take. On weekdays, the curtains are drawn, and there is no sense of clutter at all.

On the side of the living room connected to the entrance, the designer cleverly designed a TV wall about 1.2 meters wide, which is just big enough to accommodate a Dulton lacquered four-drawer chest and the owner's original 55-inch TV. The TV background wall is made of mirror material, which adds a visual extension to the space.

Unlike other people who want the living room to be the largest space in the house, Mr. and Mrs. YN want the place where they spend the most time to have more valuable space. Based on this concept, the designer gave part of the living room to the entrance and integrated the kitchen and dining room into the integrated open layout, which meets daily needs and entertains guests, and also meets the interactive space that the two like, improving their sense of living happiness.

After the living room and kitchen are connected, the two windows provide natural light to the public area at the same time, supplemented by a mirrored TV wall that can reflect natural light, extending the visual depth and increasing the brightness of the room.

Faced with the challenges of limited budget and low floor height, the designer chose an economical and industrial aesthetic circuit layout solution: exposed pipelines with retro light bulbs. At the same time, special attention was paid to the arrangement of metal pipelines, ensuring that the lines were evenly spaced and the turning points were kept at 90 degrees, showing an orderly industrial style. The exposed exposed pipelines and light lines, and the natural texture of the wall cement art paint laid the foundation for the most primitive hard decoration of the Japanese style.

Both of them like to dine casually and comfortably, such as at the bar or coffee table, so the public area does not retain the traditional restaurant. Instead, a camping-style coffee table is reserved for daily use. A vibrant green plant is placed next to the sofa to add vitality to the interior, creating the visual effect of being on vacation at home.

In the fish tank behind, the little fish are swimming freely, which is perfect for daily watching them and daydreaming.

The pegboard mode allows for easy storage while also being flexible enough to be adjusted at any time according to needs.

Traditional cabinet doors will bring a certain sense of oppression to some extent, so the two completely abandoned cabinet storage and chose open storage instead. The backless model is just right for storing bicycles for daily use, and the right side uses vertical storage to display cycling equipment, which not only completes the storage but also forms a display, with a very high cost-effectiveness.

The two cook almost every day, and having everything close at hand is in line with their usage habits. In the open kitchen design, the island is used to form a U-shaped layout, which greatly improves the practicality of the kitchen. The island can not only be used as a temporary dining table, but also because it is close to the sink, it is convenient for making coffee on a daily basis.

The exhaust pipe of the range hood is also exposed, adding an industrial aesthetic. The carefully selected metal materials with sound insulation properties ensure durability and reduce noise. The lighting is also industrial-style with exposed wires + bulbs, which complements the pipe material and style.

The previous workroom was cramped, so the designer demolished a bedroom to create a secret place for the two of them, where they spend the most time. The wood veneer extends from the corridor to the entire wall of the office area, achieving a unified wood color on the wall and floor, creating a visual continuity that makes people feel like they are in a dreamy cabin.

At the corner, there is a space specially designed for boys to hang musical instruments. They can play them when they have nothing to do. Life’s little happiness lies in it.

Two desks are cleverly arranged in an L-shaped layout, maintaining their independence within the same space. Each person has an exclusive storage wall, where they can freely display and store their favorite items.

The several Dulton metal cabinets at the entrance of the workshop are old furniture retained by the owner. The storage space of these cabinets is very spacious and can store a large number of items.

Various plants and small decorations are placed on the top of the cabinet, adding a touch of vitality and personality to the entire area.

A 606-model bookshelf is installed on the wall next to the bedroom, which is convenient for creating a reading area for two people. Books are placed in a position where they can be easily taken, which greatly increases the frequency of reading. Next to the bookshelf, near the window, is the habitat of the pet parrot and mink, surrounded by several lush green plants, creating a warm atmosphere where people, animals and nature coexist harmoniously.

The bedroom is located at the deepest part of the entire residential space. The magazine cabinet is added at the entrance to achieve multiple functions. First, it can block the view inside the bedroom to avoid the embarrassment of looking directly at the bed when opening the door; second, it acts as a bedside table, providing additional storage space for storing more bedtime reading materials; finally, such a layout also helps to free up more space, making it convenient to configure a larger wardrobe for the bedroom without occupying the aisle.

Opposite the bed is a large wardrobe that takes up the entire wall. The doors are folding and can be opened to the maximum extent, making it convenient to store large items.

After the renovation, the bathroom has achieved a three-separation design, and the area has been expanded from the original 3.8m² to 6.4m², which significantly improves the comfort of use. The setting of the wash area takes into account the working habits of girls, and is close to the work area for convenient pen washing. The wash area uses a partition combined with a storage basket to replace the traditional wash cabinet, which not only solves the wall load-bearing problem, but also avoids occupying the aisle space, making it more relaxed and spacious visually.

On the left side of the wash area, a high cabinet is used to store the washing machine and various toiletries, which is both practical and space-saving. The toilet and shower room are located opposite the wash area, and frosted glass doors are used as partitions, which not only ensure privacy but also allow light to pass through, presenting a sense of space that is both open and private.

After careful renovation, every item in the house has its own exclusive space. Daily maintenance becomes easy and simple, and even if it is placed randomly, it can still remain tidy and orderly, showing the unique relaxation of Japanese style. The comfort and casualness of this style perfectly fits the needs of the public who live in a fast-paced city but yearn for nature.

Nowadays, more and more people are deeply attracted to this style, probably because the calmness and naturalness it conveys just meet our yearning for home.
