[Global Network Report] The news that Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), was assassinated in Iran shocked the Middle East and the entire world. According to the New York Times on July 31, citing three Iranian officials familiar with the matter, Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei has ordered a direct attack on Israel in retaliation for Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran.

The New York Times said that three anonymous Iranian officials, including two members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said that Khamenei issued the order at an emergency meeting of Iran's Supreme National Security Council on Wednesday morning (July 31).

However, the above-mentioned US media said that it is not clear how strong Iran’s response will be, nor is it clear whether Iran will make adjustments again to avoid escalation of the situation.

According to CNN, at the UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday, Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations, Iravani, condemned the United States for being responsible for the assassination of Haniyeh, saying that the incident could not have happened without the authorization and intelligence support of the United States.

“The responsibility of the United States as Israel’s strategic ally and the main supporter of the Israeli regime in the region in this horrific crime cannot be ignored,” Iravani said. “This Israeli action also has a political purpose, which is to undermine the first day of the new government of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which has made strengthening peace and stability in the region and enhancing cooperation and constructive engagement with the international community its top priority.”

CNN also reported that earlier on Wednesday, US Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Robert Wood said that "the United States is not aware of the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and is not involved in it." He added that the United States "has no independent evidence to confirm Hamas's claim that Haniyeh is dead."

According to previous reports, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard confirmed on July 31 that Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Political Bureau, was assassinated in Tehran in the early hours of the same day. Haniyeh was considered the "number one figure" of Hamas. Regarding the incident, Hamas said that the assassination was carried out by Israel and was a "cowardly act." Israel refused to respond to this.
