Different brands demonstrate different competitiveness in different markets. For example, in the domestic market, the market shares of major mobile phone manufacturers are very different. The situation is also different in overseas markets.

For consumers, some sales or shipment rankings have become one of the important factors in choosing a new phone. At least they can clearly see the gap between brands.

However, in terms of the current domestic mobile phone market, the mainstream brands are basically fixed, and it is extremely difficult for other mobile phone brands to create high popularity.

However, in overseas markets, rankings and brands are different from those in the domestic market. So let us take a look at the global smartphone shipment report for the second quarter of 2024 released by the well-known market research organization Canalys.

Data shows that global smartphone shipments reached 288.9 million units in the quarter, a year-on-year increase of 12%, achieving positive growth for three consecutive quarters.

It has to be said that most of the lists have experienced a certain degree of growth, which also means that the new phones released by major mobile phone manufacturers this year are extremely attractive.

However, this situation may be difficult to sustain as inventory reserves of lower-priced components began to be depleted at the end of the first quarter.

This also means that in the next mobile phone market, the prices of new phones may rise, which is also the key reason why the growth rate may be difficult to increase significantly.

As for the rankings among brands, both domestic and overseas mobile phones are on the list, and Samsung’s ranking first is not surprising.

Because in the global mobile phone market, Samsung's share has always been very high. Even if it is difficult to create high popularity in the domestic market, it is still different around the world.

Among them, the shipment volume reached 53.5 million units, with a market share of 21%. Its high-end product line continued to drive the growth of shipment value, while the A series products effectively guaranteed the overall shipment scale through the 5G differentiation strategy.

It is worth mentioning that the next Samsung mobile phone is said to be integrated into its Galaxy ecosystem, and sales should then see a greater improvement.

The second place is the iPhone. Although its shipments have further declined, Apple still maintains the second place thanks to its strong performance in the North American and Asia-Pacific markets.

Among them, shipments reached 45.6 million units, with a market share of 17%. Apple plans to accelerate the demand for replacement and upgrading in mature markets by demonstrating its AI strategy, including hybrid models, enhanced privacy, and personalized Siri functions.

However, according to information leaked by the market, the improvement of iPhone 16 is not significant, and the AI features of iOS 18 will not be perfected until the first quarter of next year.

I don’t know if this will affect users’ desire to choose new phones. After all, the market competition is so fierce, but Apple is still struggling to make ends meet.

The third place is Xiaomi, which has a competitive product portfolio and shipped 42.3 million units. Its market share increased to 15%, closely following Apple.

It has to be said that although the number of Xiaomi mobile phones is not large enough, it has now demonstrated its strong strength, and it can even be said that the brand influence is much higher than before.

In the past, Xiaomi phones were always criticized for only piling up materials and only focusing on cost-effectiveness. Now, with its self-developed Surge chip, it has indeed brought many surprises.

What's more, the Xiaomi digital series has also brought very good achievements in recent years, and will naturally perform better in the future.

In addition, vivo smartphones returned to the fourth position with 25.9 million units shipped and a market share of 9%. The return of vivo smartphones shows the effectiveness of its market strategy and product positioning.

Transsion ranked fifth with 25.5 million units shipped, and its market share was also 9%. It should be noted that Transsion has shown strong competitiveness in specific markets, such as Africa.

Although OPPO phones fell off the list this time, its share in the domestic mobile phone market is still very high. Perhaps it needs to adjust its strategy in overseas markets in the future.

As for Huawei mobile phones, they are still in the process of breakthrough and need to wait for subsequent comprehensive breakthroughs before they can truly rise.

In short, the rankings among major mobile phone manufacturers are indeed very clear, showing that there are indeed big differences in the strengths of the major brands.

So the question is, what do you think of this list? Welcome to reply and discuss.
