Samsung highlighted that the Galaxy Z Flip6 will be part of the official medal ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympics after gifting the phones to all Olympic competitors. Traditionally, only accredited media have been able to film the event from a distance, but now the event has become more personal as all medal-winning athletes take victory selfies with their foldable phones.

All athletes competing in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in the French capital received a new Galaxy Z Flip6 smartphone as part of their Paris 2024 welcome package. Selfies taken on the podium are automatically updated to the Athlete365 portal, a platform that allows all competitors to easily connect.

Rayssa Leal, a bronze medalist in women's street skateboarding at the 2024 Paris Olympics and a member of Team Galaxy, said the victory selfie moment "celebrated the camaraderie beyond the game."

Samsung has been partnering with the IOC since the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics, and the tradition of giving away branded smartphones dates back to the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

Earlier, the South Korean manufacturer revealed that more than 200 Galaxy S24 Ultras were used to broadcast the athletes' parade on the Seine River.
