The armed conflict in Sudan that broke out in April last year has lasted for more than a year. The western Darfur region is one of the most intense conflict areas, causing a large number of civilian casualties and severe humanitarian disasters.Since the conflict between the two sides over El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, escalated in May this year, the local humanitarian situation has further deteriorated.

According to statistics from the North Darfur State Ministry of Health, since the local conflict escalated in May this year, the fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces in the city of El Fasher has killed about 750 civilians and injured more than 4,700 others.

The World Health Organization recently stated that there are currently about 800,000 civilians trapped in the city of El Fasher, and humanitarian aid cannot enter the city due to security reasons, resulting in an extreme shortage of local food, medicine and other supplies.

Amna Alhadi, a resident of El Fasher:We had nothing to eat or drink, almost nothing, and many people were sick, but we could do nothing but suffer in the misery.

The conflict has also led to the displacement of a large number of people in the area. In the entire Darfur region, the total number of displaced persons caused by the conflict over the past year has exceeded 4 million. Many displaced persons live in dozens of local refugee centers. However, the conditions in the refugee centers are very difficult, with simple facilities and crowded people. Not only is there a lack of food and drinking water, but there are also mountains of garbage, mosquitoes and flies are breeding, and the environmental sanitation is in a state of disaster under the scorching heat.

Yusri Ismail, a displaced person:Many people can't find food, some people will take out their food to share with neighbors, most people can only go hungry. Due to the lack of food, we have been facing hunger for a long time.

In addition, the health care system in the El Fasher region is on the verge of collapse. Currently, except for one hospital and four primary health care centers, all other local medical facilities have stopped serving. In some refugee centers, infectious diseases such as cholera and diarrhea have begun to spread on a large scale.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs recently warned that as the armed conflict in Sudan continues, the humanitarian situation in the country is further deteriorating.

Afaf Issa, a member of the humanitarian aid agency:We call on the conflicting parties in Sudan to achieve a ceasefire as soon as possible and open up channels for humanitarian aid to enter various regions to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
