[Global Network Technology Comprehensive Report] On the afternoon of July 27, 2024, at the NIO IN 2024 NIO Innovation Technology Day event, Li Bin, founder, chairman and CEO of NIO, announced a major technological breakthrough - NIO's self-developed world's first 5nm smart driving chip "Shenji NX9031" was successfully taped out and demonstrated on site. Its performance far exceeded expectations and attracted widespread attention in the industry.

As the industry's first high-end smart driving chip manufactured using 5nm automotive-grade technology, the Shenji NX9031 not only leads the industry in manufacturing technology, but also achieves a qualitative leap in performance. According to Li Bin, the chip has more than 50 billion transistors. In terms of comprehensive capabilities and execution efficiency, a self-developed Shenji NX9031 chip can achieve the performance level of four industry flagship chips, demonstrating NIO's deep technical accumulation and innovation capabilities in the field of smart driving chips.

The successful development of the Shenji NX9031 chip marks a solid step forward for NIO in terms of intelligent driving technology. The chip uses a 32-core CPU architecture, can process more than 6 trillion instructions per second, and has super concurrent task processing capabilities. At the same time, the built-in high-dynamic range high-performance ISP can achieve a pixel processing capability of 6.5G Pixel/s, with a processing delay of less than 5ms, ensuring that a large amount of image data can be processed quickly and clearly in complex environments, providing more accurate and timely environmental perception information for intelligent driving.

In addition, the Shenji NX9031 chip also has built-in LPDDR5x 8533Mbps RAM, and with the self-developed inference acceleration unit NPU, it can flexibly and efficiently run various AI algorithms, dynamically wake up each subsystem in microseconds, and bring an extremely safe and efficient smart driving experience. At the same time, the chip also has the industry's highest level of native security design and dual-chip millisecond-level backup capabilities, providing users with the highest level of security.

Li Bin said that the Digitimes NX9031 chip and underlying software have been independently designed, which is of great significance for NIO to achieve full-stack self-developed intelligent driving. In the future, NIO will rely on the powerful performance of the Digitimes NX9031 chip to further promote the development of intelligent driving technology and bring users a safer, more convenient and comfortable travel experience.
