Shanghai, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Eric Zheng, president of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, admitted at the "Common Concepts, Common Future - River Dialogues between Shanghai and New York" event in Shanghai on July 26 that American companies in China still believe that China is a very important strategic market. They hope that the relationship between the United States and China can remain stable and develop healthily, and they also hope that China's business environment can continue to improve.

On the same day, the Shanghai Public Relations Association, the Shanghai Institute of American Studies, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai jointly held the "Common Ideals, Common Future - River Dialogues between Shanghai and New York" at the Jinjiang Auditorium in Shanghai. Business elites, experts and scholars from China and the United States gathered together to discuss the opportunities and challenges facing the two international metropolises of Shanghai and New York, and to further promote cultural exchanges between China and the United States.

After reviewing the origins of American companies and Shanghai, Zheng Yi emphasized that the economic and trade relations between the United States and China are mutually beneficial and win-win. In addition, in recent years, the direct investment of the United States in China has been basically stable. It can be said that after the reform and opening up, American companies in China have directly participated in China's development process and have grown and developed accordingly.

"The United States and China have cooperation in many different industries, such as artificial intelligence and pharmaceuticals. We need to share more common values, and we also need more economic and trade cooperation." Mark Jaffe, president of the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce, believes that the United States and China have many common interests, and he hopes that the two sides can strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, cultural exchanges and other aspects.

Sean Stein, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the American Chamber of Commerce in China, also hopes that American and Chinese companies can work more closely together, not only in China, but also "going global" to the United States or other countries. "American and Chinese companies have complementary resources. In today's globalized environment, if American and Chinese companies can work together, it will be more conducive to the development of companies in both countries."

Tan Sen hopes that through the power of the private sector, including enterprises, educational institutions, cultural institutions, etc., everyone can work together to increase mutual trust between the two peoples and make efforts to stabilize and develop relations between the United States and China.

Zheng Yi specifically mentioned the recently held Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. "The Third Plenary Session made important arrangements for promoting high-level opening up and expanding the use of foreign capital, such as requiring foreign-invested enterprises to receive national treatment in terms of factor acquisition, qualification licensing, standard setting, and government procurement. These decisions are exactly the policy guarantees that American companies in China are very eager to see, and can largely relieve their worries."

The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai will celebrate its 110th anniversary next year. Zheng Yi said that the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai will stick to its original intention, assist American companies in investing and operating in China, and promote the healthy development of US-China economic and trade relations in the direction of win-win cooperation.
