On July 26, the well-known data research company IDC officially released the Q2 domestic smartphone market report. This report is very comprehensive and I believe everyone has seen it, but there is one item that has attracted the attention of the industry, and that is about the foldable screen mobile phone market.

The report believes that in the second quarter of 2024, the overall shipments of foldable screen mobile phones in China will reach 2.57 million units, continuing to maintain a triple-digit growth rate. The report believes that the growth rate of domestic foldable screen mobile phones will be faster in the second half of the year, and will be significantly faster than the global market.

Now let’s take a look at the ranking and share of the domestic folding screen market in the second quarter:

Champion: Huawei, with a market share of 41.7%;

Runner-up: vivo, with a market share of 23.1%;

Third place: Honor, with a market share of 20.9%;

Fourth: OPPO, with a market share of 8.4%;

Fifth: Samsung, with a market share of 3.0%. Xiaomi ranked sixth with a market share of 1.4%, followed by ZTE with 0.9% and Lenovo with 0.7%.

From the overall data, Huawei is still the only company that dominates the folding screen field in China, with a market share of more than 40%. This is a very scary data, I believe everyone understands. In the second quarter, due to the commercial use of the vivo X Fold3 series of the blue factory, vivo's market share directly rushed to the second place, but failed to pull away from Honor. Xiaomi's market share is low because Xiaomi only has a folding screen on sale in Q2, and it is a product that is about to become obsolete. In Q3, the market share will be completely different. The most unexpected thing is that Samsung, the earliest folding screen manufacturer, has almost no presence in China now.

As the IDC report said, the third and fourth quarters will be the golden period for foldable screen competition, because in Q3, Samsung, Xiaomi, Honor, etc. have successively released their latest foldable screen phones of the year. It is said that Huawei will also release a low-end foldable screen phone for ordinary users, plus OPPO's new foldable screen phone, users can choose from more and more, and the competition is of course fierce.
