NBC quoted sources as saying that former US President Obama plans to soon announce his support for current US Vice President and presidential candidate Harris to run in the US presidential election, in an action to dispel rumors.

Four sources told the network that Obama has been in close contact with Harris since she locked up the nomination last Sunday, but they don't know exactly when the former president plans to announce the endorsement. Three sources said advisers to Obama and Harris have discussed the possibility of them appearing together during the campaign.

One of them told NBC that Obama has not yet expressed his support because he does not want his speech to overshadow the national speech delivered not long ago by current President Biden.

Earlier, the New York Times quoted a source from the Biden family as saying that Obama did not support Harris' possible nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate because he believed she could not defeat Republican candidate Trump.

Obama is reportedly one of the few Democrats who has yet to endorse Harris, keeping his support secret until now even as other party leaders have publicly endorsed her.

Obama and Harris have known each other for many years. Not only are they of similar age, they also have similar backgrounds. Harris is of African and South Asian descent, while Obama is the first American president of African descent.

Harris was a supporter of Obama when he ran for the 2008 presidential election. Harris was also a guest speaker at Obama's 2012 presidential candidate nomination convention. Obama campaigned for Harris when she ran for California Attorney General. Obama also supported Harris when she ran for the Senate in 2016.

After Harris took over, the Democratic Party regained its campaign morale. Recent polls show that Harris, who has already secured the Democratic nomination, and Trump are almost tied in the polls, sweeping away the shadow of Biden being left behind by Trump in the Democratic Party since the end of June, and there is a bullish trend.

Harris said on the social platform X on the 25th that she was ready to debate with Trump, accusing Republican presidential candidate Trump of trying to avoid such a face-to-face debate. "Trump had agreed to hold a debate on September 10. Now it seems that he is backing off."

Trump has previously said he would very much like to debate Harris, but under other conditions, and the debate originally planned for ABC is no longer suitable for him.
