At TennoCon 2024, Digital Extremes unveiled the new Warframe expansion "Warframe 1999", which is the first expansion in the game that allows players to "fall in love". As for why romantic elements were added to the game, the official said that the successful romance system of "Baldur's Gate 3" gave them the courage.

Rebecca Ford, creative director of Warframe, said that she had always wanted to add a certain type of love system to Warframe, but she had never found the right scene to do it. Now that Larian Studios has achieved success with Baldur's Gate 3, they finally have the courage to add romantic elements to Warframe 11 years later. The success of the romantic system in Baldur's Gate 3 feels like "Okay, people really want this kind of fantasy." This inspired the development team to break through the last obstacle and build a romantic story for Warframe.

Warframe 1999 is a 20th-century take on the genre. Players will work with six retro prototype Warframes to hunt down the infamous Dr. Entrati. The game's plot will be driven by an old-school message system and may even bring about a romance.
