The seventh CIIE (China International Import Expo) is about to enter the 100-day sprint stage of preparations.

"At present, all preparatory work is progressing smoothly and has achieved phased results." At the press conference of the 7th CIIE held on July 24, Sun Chenghai, deputy director of the China International Import Expo Bureau, said that as of now, more than 50 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the exhibition. Among them, countries and international organizations such as Norway, Benin, Burundi and UNICEF will participate in the exhibition for the first time. At the same time, this corporate exhibition will continue the six exhibition areas of food and agricultural products, automobiles, technical equipment, consumer goods, medical devices and medical care, and service trade, and strive to create an innovation incubation area. The exhibition area signed so far has exceeded 360,000 square meters. The organization of trade delegations and professional visitors has been accelerated, and the progress has been faster than the same period last year. It is expected that more professional visitors will participate in the 7th CIIE.

Sun Chenghai proposed that a new material zone will be set up for the first time this year to build an international exchange platform to promote innovation and development in the field of new materials. Secondly, the automobile exhibition area has also been innovative in curating, focusing on inviting exhibitors in the fields of unmanned driving, low-altitude economy, new energy storage (automobiles), etc. to showcase the key elements of future travel. In addition, a health and elderly care zone will be created to bring together cutting-edge technologies suitable for the elderly and related products and services to help release new momentum for the development of the "silver economy".

The seventh CIIE continues to attract "new and old friends". So far, more than 150 companies have signed contracts for seven consecutive years. On the other hand, Fortune 500 companies such as Mitsubishi Corporation and NTT will participate in the exhibition for the first time, and "new faces" such as Nippon Paint and INVISTA in the new materials area and Aptiv and Alstom in the transportation field will sign contracts for the first time.

Sun Chenghai introduced that the 7th Hongqiao Forum will continue to highlight the theme of openness, focusing on "adhering to high-level openness and jointly promoting inclusive economic globalization", and will hold the main forum and related sub-forums. At the same time, it will also hold special promotion activities for the free trade pilot zones to polish the "Invest in China" brand.

As the flagship report of the Hongqiao International Economic Forum, the World Openness Report has been released for three consecutive years. Sun Chenghai said that this year, the World Openness Report 2024 will continue to be released and an international seminar will be held, and the World Openness Report 2024 and the latest World Openness Index will be released. Among them, this year's report will show highlights such as a more optimized openness index, deeper international cooperation, and more prominent openness hotspots.

In terms of security services, Liu Ping, deputy secretary-general of the Shanghai Municipal Government and director of the CIIE Urban Service Security Leading Group Office, said at the meeting that this year's CIIE will work hard in four aspects: facilitation of participation, refinement of services, intelligent security, and green exhibition. In terms of entry and exit, it will promote the implementation of convenient measures such as "providing foreign exhibitors with multiple-entry valid visas". The customs issued the customs clearance instructions and convenience measures for the 7th CIIE, further simplifying the special approval procedures and the relevant certificate requirements for some products participating in the exhibition. In terms of certificate handling, the certificate handling process will be further optimized, the certificate handling time will be shortened, and the trial scope of electronic certificates will be gradually expanded.

Exhibits become commodities, exhibitors become investors, and the spillover effects of the CIIE continue to be released.

Zhu Min, director of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and executive deputy director of the CIIE City Service Guarantee Leading Group Office, said that on the one hand, the good things from the CIIE have gone from the "four-leaf clover" to the domestic "big market", and the driving effect of the "Silk Road e-commerce", the effect of the perennial display and trading platform, and the first launch and exhibition effect of the CIIE are obvious. For example, since the sixth CIIE, Shanghai has introduced a total of 5,840 first stores, and more than 80 first stores above the Asian level. Not long ago, the world's first photon counting CT, which debuted at the sixth CIIE, was officially put into operation in Shanghai Ruijin Hospital, benefiting more patients.

On the other hand, the "sense of gain" of the 6-day experience of attending the conference has gradually upgraded to the "satisfaction" of the 365-day business environment. In the first half of this year, Shanghai established 3,007 new foreign-funded enterprises, an increase of 18.3% year-on-year. The city has newly recognized 29 regional headquarters of multinational companies and 14 foreign-funded R&D centers, with a total of 985 and 575 recognized respectively. Zhu Min gave an example, saying that exhibitors of the CIIE invested in Shanghai to expand production. Lego, which has participated in the CIIE for six consecutive years, has begun to build the first phase of its theme park resort project. Straumann, an exhibitor at the fourth CIIE, has started the first phase of its high-end implant industrialization project and is expected to reach full production in 2025.
