On July 22, the fantasy action blockbuster "Under the Aliens", directed by Wuershan, the director of "The Investiture of the Gods Trilogy", held its premiere in Beijing, and co-organized the "Summer of Aliens" party with the movie channel. The format of this premiere can be called "unprecedented", with the actors transforming into different aliens of different styles, breaking the dimensional wall and coming to the audience, setting off a summer carnival that is "high" to the sky. The film will be released nationwide on July 26.

Wuershan is obsessed with Chinese comic adaptations, "I must make this movie"

Earlier that day, "Under the Alien" held its premiere at the cinema. Director and screenwriter Wuershan, original author Mi Er, co-director Xia Peng, action director Wu Gang, art director Qiu Sheng, styling director Si Ji, editing director Huang Shuo, visual effects director Sun Min, music director Meng Kezhuolan, sound directors Wang Gang, Liu Xiaosha, production director Sun Ye and other behind-the-scenes creators chatted with the first audience about the behind-the-scenes of "building a Chinese supernatural world."

The film is adapted from the "top Chinese comic" Under One Person, which has been serialized for only 8 years and has received over 30 billion hits. The vast world view of supernatural powers is breathtaking, and the rich and strange character settings can all be traced back to traditional Chinese culture. Director Wuershan said that he was deeply fascinated by it, "I have always wanted to make a Chinese supernatural comic adaptation movie. After filming The Investiture of the Gods Trilogy, I told myself that I must make this movie."

"In selecting actors, we strive to be close to the images in the original comics. For this purpose, we conducted a six-month audition, and three actors entered the training camp for each role. After six months of continuous training, they had to learn acting and traditional martial arts. After three makeup tests, auditions and action assessments, we finally determined the lineup of 'aliens' in the current movie." Wuershan introduced. Talking about the difficulties of bringing comics to the big screen, he believes that the biggest challenge is how to retain the most essential parts of the comics within a limited time and how to create a "comic-style" viewing experience for the audience.

"Under the Aliens" is the first film to combine live-action animation with artificial intelligence technology in theatrical film production, which is also a tribute to the "peak Chinese comics" by the creative team. Director Xia Peng shared, "We chose traditional hand-painted animation to preserve the details of the actors' performances, and integrated artificial intelligence technology in the post-production process to make the picture full of visual tension in the style of painting. This is to allow the audience to experience the various "joys, anger, sorrows and joys" in the world of aliens in the comics, and enjoy the novel experience of the fusion of the two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds."

Mi Er, the original author, also believes that this way of presentation is very novel. "I am also very surprised by the effect of the film. The overall adaptation of the film is very smooth, and some changes are also very exciting. It can be said that it can ensure the accuracy of the performance and achieve visual stylization."

It is reported that Wuershan had communicated with Mi Er many times before the filming began, and Mi Er also participated in various stages of the film creation. Mi Er was invited by the director from the initial planning meeting to talk about many details about the original intention of creation, world view, character background, etc. He also came to the "Alien Training Camp" when the actors were trying on makeup to witness everyone's hard work. In addition, Wuershan also arranged a role for Mi Er. I believe that after the film is officially released, which role the original author played will definitely trigger extensive discussion among fans.

All members practice martial arts, and "Under the Alien" and "The Investiture of the Gods Trilogy" have a linkage "easter egg"

At the party held that night, in order to let the audience feel the charm of the world of aliens, the actors took the stage to perform in character to continue the story of the film. In the movie, sophomore Zhang Chulan (played by Hu Xianxu) originally lived a peaceful campus life. As the secret that he was the successor of the peerless martial arts "Qi Body Origin" was made public, various forces launched a fierce competition around him. "One minute on stage, ten years of hard work off stage", in order to better show Zhang Chulan's temperament as a "hidden master", Hu Xianxu not only did a lot of fitness and body shaping, successfully lost 15 kilograms, but also learned a variety of traditional martial arts such as Baguazhang and Bajiquan from scratch.

During the interview at the party, Hu Xianxu said that Zhang Chulan's greatest charm is that he is "extremely smart, extremely smooth, and at the same time he sticks to his own beliefs and maintains his true nature." As the actor of Zhang Chulan's grandfather Zhang Xilin, Shang Tielong said that he taught Zhang Chulan to hide himself since he was a child because he hoped that he could live a peaceful life. "This has nothing to do with his identity as an alien, it's just the expectation and love of a grandfather for his grandson in life."

Feng Baobao, who has been silently protecting Zhang Chulan for many years in the film, is tearful. The actor Li Wanda explained to the audience, "Feng Baobao is as pure and genuine as a baby. Her heart is like a baby, but she is a peerless master, often suppressing the opponent with super-high force of 'no move is better than a move'." She also revealed that she did not give up the kung fu she learned in the "Alien Training Camp". After the filming, she continued to study martial arts with the training camp martial arts instructor Zhou Xiaofei, and won the first prize of Bajiquan in the 2024 Beijing Traditional Wushu Championship and Beijing International Wushu Invitational Tournament.

The Quanxing faction in the film advocates "full authenticity and recklessness", and often wanders outside the rules of the alien world. Feng Shaofeng, who plays the "root of trouble" Shen Chong, said that the character setting is a delicate cleanliness freak who needs to wear a suit to fight and keep the movements cool. To this end, he learned Jeet Kune Do from scratch and watched a lot of film and television works to study "how to fight without being restricted by a suit". Naran also "practiced martial arts" from scratch. In order to show the ease of the "bone scraper" Xia He's movements and body movements, she practiced 5 traditional martial arts including Baguazhang, Bajiquan, and Snake Fist in the "Alien Training Camp". The "Alien Girl Group" with both high appearance and martial arts in the movie also left a deep impression on everyone. Naran recalled, "Every girl in the camp is very tough and independent. During the hard training, everyone will cheer and support each other."

Dou Mei, one of the "Quan Xing Four Madmen", is the screen debut of Liu Chunyan, the host known as "Golden Turtle", who has grown up with several generations of audiences. She shared her feelings about her first film role in an interview, "In fact, this role is very different from my previous image, and I refused at first. Later, I asked my daughter for her opinion. I didn't expect that she was a big fan of the comic "Under One Person" and she especially supported me." Gao Ning, the "Thunder Smoke Cannon" who always appears in the same frame with Dou Mei in the film, has a pot-bellied figure that makes people laugh. In order to present the image of a highly "close to the face" comic, the actor Sang Ping revealed that the first makeup trial took 6 hours, "The scalp, face, chin, belly, and ears were all glued on, and then the colors were unified to create the overall effect."

At the party, the creators also shared the linkage "easter eggs" between "Under the Alien" and "The Investiture of the Gods Trilogy". Feng Xingtong's actor Cheng Yijie revealed that although his father Feng Zhenghao and he are both generals who can summon spirits, the image his father "summons" is the four generals of the Demon Family, while his is Nezha. Han Pengyi, the motion capture actor who played Lei Zhenzi in "The Investiture of the Gods Trilogy", "conquered" many netizens with his precise and delicate acting skills. He played two roles in "Under the Alien" this time - Jiyun, a disciple of Tianyi Sect, and Liu Fang, a young man from Tianjin Wei, allowing the audience to see his "true face". In order to present a highly "close to the face" comic image, Han Pengyi also used special effects makeup when playing Jiyun, and made the comic character come into reality by "reshaping" the ears, nose and other parts.
