IT Home reported on July 23 that ON Semiconductor announced yesterday that it has become the main supplier of the main drive inverter (Traction Inverter) for Volkswagen's SSP electric vehicle platform. ON Semiconductor will provide a complete power box solution based on SiC silicon carbide technology for the platform.

IT Home Note: SSP full name Scalable Systems PThe Scalable System Platform is Volkswagen's unified electric platform for 80% of its next-generation vehicles, expected to be launched in 2026.

ON Semiconductor's power box solution will be equipped with its new generation EliteSiC M3e MOSFET, which was recently launched (local time on July 18).Significantly reduces energy consumption and can handle more power in a smaller package

ON Semiconductor claims that its EliteSiC M3e MOSFET has 30% lower conduction losses and up to 50% lower turn-off losses than previous generations, and has ultra-low on-resistance and short-circuit resistance; designs based on this materialThe material consumption can be reduced by 20% at the same output power

In the overall power box solution, three integrated half-bridge modules are installed on the cooling channel, ensuring efficient conduction of heat from semiconductor devices to the coolant housing, further improving system efficiency and extending the range of electric vehicles.

Dirk Große-Loheide, Member of the Board of Management for the Volkswagen brand “Purchasing” and Member of the Extended Executive Board Group Purchasing, said:

We are very pleased that ON Semiconductor has become the strategic supplier of the first batch of main drive inverter power boxes for the SSP platform. From raw material growth to power box assembly, ON Semiconductor's deep vertical supply chain convinced us.

Till von Bothmer, Senior Vice President Powertrain Purchasing at Volkswagen Group, added:

In addition to vertical integration, ON Semiconductor has also further proposed the concept of flexible supply by relying on its SiC wafer fabs in Asia, Europe and the United States. In addition, ON Semiconductor will continue to provide the latest generation of silicon carbide technology to ensure our competitiveness in the market.
