Microsoft announced earlier this month that, in addition to more price increases for Game Pass, it would also be eliminating the Xbox Game Pass console base tier for new subscribers and replacing it with a new Xbox Game Pass standard tier that won't include any first-run games. This change is pretty significant, but it seems Microsoft has more changes in the works.

A report published by Windows Central suggests that Microsoft is currently preparing a new Xbox Game Pass tier that will be cloud-based and therefore offer a cheaper alternative to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Presumably, that means the tier will include launch titles, but according to the report, the cloud-only tier will be aimed at potential subscribers who don't have Xbox hardware - potentially including rival platforms. Users will allegedly be able to digitally purchase games from the Game Pass library separately while subscribing to the new tier.

The report also claims that Microsoft may also be considering introducing friends and family plans for Game Pass, an idea it previously tried (and ultimately abandoned) in some regions. Additionally, Microsoft is said to be exploring tiered plans that include ads, but this is not something it is actively working on at the moment.

However, Microsoft has not yet officially announced when the standard version of Xbox Game Pass will be available to new users on the console.
