[Global Network Report] According to the Israeli Jerusalem Post, on July 18 local time, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu made a surprise visit to the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah to inspect the Israeli troops stationed there. The report said that this was Netanyahu's first visit to the region since the Israeli army captured Rafah in May. He argued that the Israeli military's military pressure on the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Rafah "helped promote the conclusion of a ceasefire agreement."

Netanyahu also reportedly posted a video on social media of him inspecting Israeli troops in Rafah, as well as a photo of him sitting in an armored vehicle.

The Jerusalem Post mentioned that Netanyahu will visit Washington next week, when he will meet with US President Biden and deliver a speech to the US Congress. During the inspection, Netanyahu told the soldiers that during his visit to the United States, he will promote "Israel's just cause in Gaza and the heroic performance of Israeli soldiers."

Rafah is the southernmost city in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army's continuous offensive on Rafah has led to a rapid increase in casualties in recent days. According to the latest data released by the health department of the Gaza Strip, since the outbreak of a new round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict on October 7 last year, Israel's military operations in the Gaza Strip have killed more than 38,000 Palestinians and injured more than 89,000.
