Sino-French astronomical satellite has detected three gamma-ray bursts

On July 15, the reporter learned from the Chinese Academy of Sciences that the recently launched Sino-French astronomical satellite brought good news: after in-orbit testing, the satellite platform is working normally, and the four payloads on board have completed the power-on test. Among them, the gamma-ray monitor developed by the Institute of High Energy Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences has successfully detected three gamma-ray bursts.

The Sino-French Astronomical Satellite is an important international cooperation project between China and France in the field of space science. It is the world's most powerful satellite with multi-band comprehensive observation capabilities for gamma-ray bursts to date. It was launched on June 22.

It is understood that the gamma-ray monitor on the Sino-French astronomical satellite was officially turned on on June 24 and conducted in-orbit testing on June 27. On the 27th, the gamma-ray monitor successfully captured the first gamma-ray burst (numbered GRB 240627B), which is the first in-orbit scientific detection result of the Sino-French astronomical satellite. After comparison, the light curve of the gamma-ray burst is the same as the result observed by the "Extreme Eyes" space telescope detector on the first launch star of my country's "Innovation X" series, and is highly consistent with the observation results of foreign Fermi satellite detectors. After that, the gamma-ray monitor successfully detected the second gamma-ray burst (numbered GRB 240629A) and the third gamma-ray burst (numbered GRB 240702A) on June 29 and July 2, respectively.

The first three gamma-ray bursts detected have been submitted to the international General Collaboration Network (GCN). The detection results fully verified the high-precision trigger detection capability of the Sino-French astronomical satellite gamma-ray monitor payload for gamma-ray bursts, and also helped solve several major problems in basic science.
