IT Home reported on July 18 that Google issued a press release today, announcing the launch of Project Oscar to help open source development teams use and create AI agents to manage software projects.

Google held the 2024 I/O Connect developer event in Bangalore, India. Its Go language development team launched Project Oscar, which helps software product teams monitor problems or errors in the development process by building an open source platform for AI agents.

These AI agents can be deployed in development, planning, operation or after-sales support. Developers do not need to rewrite any code and can interact through natural language.

Cameron Balahan, product manager for Google's open source programming language Go, said Oscar has now been deployed to the project to help the Go development team track bug reports and other contributors' involvement.

With more than 93,000 commits and 2,000 contributors to the Go project, Balahan said it's difficult to keep track of all the issues that might arise.

Go uses an AI agent developed through Project Oscar that receives issue reports and enriches them by reviewing that data or invoking development tools to highlight the most important information. The AI agent also interacts with the person reporting the issue to clarify any issues, even when the human maintainer is not online.
